Mayor Penny Luebs, Working hard to build a stronger community

It is a great honor to be named Mayor. Thank you to all who voted for me. I am not afraid of hard work, and am ready to begin this next chapter in my life. Clawson is a great place to live, and with your support, we can continue to maintain Clawson as a family friendly neighborhood providing great city services.

A Great City

Clawson is 2.4 square miles, about 6 miles north of the City of Detroit, with a population of 12, 732 people. The average cost of housing is $160,000.00. Enrollment in schools for the 2006/07 year rose 8.7%. Our tax base is about 16% commercial, 4% industrial, and 80% residential. Major employers (reported by Oakland County Community Profile) are Clawson Public Schools (350), United Parcel Services (158) ,Cambridge North (115), Stanley Industries (75), Clawson Steak House (75), with Julian Brothers Bakery (46) and the City of Clawson (45).

A Clear Vision

My goals as mayor continues to be Communication - improve open communication and encourage citizen participation in the decision making process. Economics - guard against surplus spending and live within our budget and Progress - promote a business friendly atmosphere for those looking to invest in our community. The first Tuesday of each month, at 7 pm, please join council for "coffee and chat" prior to the council meeting at 7:30 pm. I'd love to hear from you.

A major attraction in Clawson is our residential neighborhoods, parks, schools, recreation programs and library, all within walking distance of any house in Clawson. As a city, we are focusing on our strengths - defining Clawson as a pedestrian destination area, attracting new businesses, and promoting a business friendly atmosphere for those looking to invest in our community.
